Action & Student Leadership

Student Leadership

Our House system consists of four houses: Kellett, Nicholson, Cameron and Victoria.  All students and staff are placed into a House group when they enter the school.  Throughout the school year there are many events and activities where students and staff represent their house. The House system provides leadership opportunities through appointing two Year 6 and one Year 5 House Captain. Students from Kellett, Nicholson, Cameron, and Victoria houses participate in elections to select their representatives. The House Captains coordinate house activities, run assemblies, maintain point systems, and create team spirit through chants and displays.

Peak School Planet Savers are another aspect of our leadership program. This dedicated team of students from across year levels has transformed how our school community thinks about our environment and sustainability. Their achievements include implementing comprehensive recycling programs, composting, planting and using En-Trak to monitor the school's electricity consumption. The committee's structure ensures that older students mentor younger ones, creating a cascade of environmental awareness throughout the school.

Peak School also offers the Junior Duke award, a comprehensive ten-level program designed to boost children’s independence, confidence, and resilience. This award provides a non-academic platform where students can experience success and achievement through various challenges and activities. By participating in the Junior Duke program, students develop essential life skills and gain a sense of accomplishment that extends beyond the classroom.

We have other established leadership roles too including Library Monitors, Technology Leaders, and Sports Day Leaders. Our "Buddy" system pairs older students (Years 4-6) with younger peers (Years 1-3), fostering mentorship skills and strengthening our school community.

Action

At Peak School, action is embedded throughout our Programme of Inquiry. We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom and that students should actively engage with their communities and the world around them. Through hands-on projects, community service, and collaborative initiatives, students are encouraged to apply their knowledge and skills in meaningful ways. This emphasis on action not only deepens their understanding of the concepts they study but also fosters a sense of responsibility and empowerment. By taking action, students learn to be compassionate, reflective, and proactive citizens, making a positive impact on their environment and inspiring lifelong learning.
