ESF Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy

Peak School is committed to safeguarding all our students.

In order to ensure that we are able to put the ESF Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy in place, we have appointed the following Child Protection Officers (CPOs) at Peak School:

Bill Garnett - Principal (bill.garnett@peakschool.edu.hk)

Chiqui Colet - Vice Principal (chiqui.colet@peakschool.edu.hk)

Loraine Fay - Learning Diversity Teacher (loraine.fay@peakschool.edu.hk)

Any member of the school community with Safeguarding and / or Child Protection concerns should contact the above named individuals directly.

Wellbeing

The wellbeing of our students and staff is of utmost importance to us, and as such, it is one of our key priorities. We work with families and the wider community to ensure that we are providing the necessary support for all students and staff in Peak School.

Our curriculum and daily practices in school help promote wellbeing within our community.

Rules of Respect

Respect is at the core of our relationships at Peak School.  All members of our community follow the Rules of Respect.

  • Respect yourself
  • Respect other people and their property
  • Respect the environment

School Counselor

Counselling services are available for students in all year groups.  Children who may need counselling are referred by their parents or teachers.  Students can also make an appointment with the counselor by dropping in to the counselor’s room or by completing a self-referral form.

Our counselor also runs regular parent information sessions to provide guidance to families and to share insights on topics related to parenting.

Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA)

An ELSA is an Educational Assistant who has completed specific training in emotional literacy skills.  They help children and young people learn to understand their emotions and respect the feelings of those around them.  They provide time and space for pupils to think about their personal circumstances and how they manage them.

At Peak School. ELSAs work with children individually or in small groups to support them with needs such as bereavement, family change, low-level anxiety, stress, friendship needs, and self-esteem.

Learning Diversity Team

At Peak School, we are committed to creating an inclusive and nurturing environment that embraces and celebrates student diversity. We recognise that every individual is unique and has their own interests, strengths, abilities, learning styles and needs.

We have a dedicated Learning Diversity Team (LDT) that includes two full-time Learning Diversity Teachers, and a team of LDT Educational Assistants. The team works closely with the class teachers and families to identify the unique strengths of students while addressing and reducing learning and equity barriers.

The diverse learning needs of students are identified using the ESF Levels of Adjustment

The majority of support from the LDT is provided within the mainstream classroom but as appropriate, individual and small group withdrawal programmes are planned for and delivered across the curriculum in close collaboration with class teachers.

Additional support and services may also be provided in the following areas:-

  • Sensory Motor Programme
  • Self-regulation
  • Additional Literacy/Numeracy programmes
  • Fine/Gross Motor Skills
  • Social Skills programmes
  • Educational Psychologist support (ESF)

Our primary goal is to provide every student with an equal opportunity to thrive and succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. In line with ESF’s vision, our aim is ‘for every student to be the best that they can be’.

Outside Providers

There is a Speech and Language Therapist and an Occupational Therapist who provide services to Peak School students on site during the school day.  Parents of children who require these support services may avail of their services for extra tuition.  Please contact our Learning Diversity Teachers for more information.

Peak School also offers Animal Assisted Therapy through Rise Wise Foundation.
